‍Greece

We’ve added new data on sectoral subcomponents of the FTSE ATHEX, denominated in EUR.

As our chart shows, the stock benchmark has started 2024 with a healthy advance – extending the gains from last year, when the leading credit-rating agencies bolstered the Greek turnaround story by returning the nation’s government debt to investment-grade. The “Large-Cap” measure of the biggest stocks is outperforming the All-Shares Index. All industry sectors are positing positive returns, led by basic materials and financial services.

‍Malaysia

We’ve added new data on Islamic government bond yields. Our chart tracks the evolution of this debt category’s term structure over the last 5 years, sequentially plotting the yield curve on a monthly basis.

The trajectory since 2018 shows how yields compressed during the pandemic. However, the shorter end of the curve has steepened since mid-2022 amid policy rate hikes. Subsequently, surging US yields have lured investors away from emerging-market debt.

Today’s yield curve (plotted in black) remains below its counterpart from five years ago (in red); the curve seen three years ago (in blue) was among the most compressed.
