# How can I shorten a series?

You can shorten a series by typing one of our Cut formulas as an expression in the series list. The three variants are:

CutStart(series, observation)

Removes all observations before the specified observation number

CutEnd(series, observation)

Removes all observations after the specified observation number

Cut(series, observationStart, observationEnd)

Removes all observations before and after the specified range

You should input the series that you want to shorten, and the observation number(s) where you'd like it to be cut. You can use the Date(year, month, day) function to get the observation number at a specific date.

For example, the following expression shortens the series for Swedish GDP to start on 1st January 2000:

CutStart(segdp , Date(2000 , 01 , 01))
